Day 127: Got lured down into the basement

What I'm listening to today

Lore (2020, podcast) - Aaron Mahnke hosts this weekly podcast and is a master of pulling threads from history and spinning them into yarns about the supernatural. This episode chronicling the ghostly history of castles and tower houses in Great Britain and Ireland pulls from historical record, myths and legends, and Mahnke's personal experiences to create a vivid, cohesive story that is both informative and terrifying. The stories aren't always scary, but they are always riveting. Mahnke's delivery is polished and perfect, but this isn't the podcast for late night drives; Mahnke's smooth delivery could lull you to sleep, and the subject matter will cause you to have nightmares.

What I'm doing today

Decluttering - We've got some new hardware coming next week that's bound for the basement. Unfortunately the basement looks like a trash heap, because it's where we stash all the stuff that doesn't have a practical home in the house. So I sorted through about a dozen bags of clothes and loaded them in the car, to be taken away at my next opportunity; they're either going to Goodwill or my friend's house. Then I browsed through a few mystery boxes and got rid of a bunch of unneeded junk. Ultimately I cleared up some floor space, but I still need to swap out some area rugs, toss out some more junk, and hang some newly-discovered art on the wall.

What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
