Day 123: Out on the trail

What I'm doing today

Hiking - Before the kids had a chance to drive me crazy, I got them all dressed, shoes on, teeth brushed, sun-screened, and masked, and we went for a short hike on the trails around the neighborhood. We were on the hunt for snakes and dragonflies, but we found neither. To sum up how the hike went, the moment we stepped onto the trail the 5yo was immediately crying and whining because "this trail has so many bugs." After I explained that the bugs were friendly and pointed out a giant grasshopper that was hiding in the weeds, she warmed right up. After we had trekked about 3/4 miles and were about to step back onto the sidewalk, she turned and said goodbye to Mr. Bee, Mr. Grasshopper, Miss. Butterfly, and Little Red Ant. "I'll see you all next time!" We had seen at least six species of butterflies, probably hundreds of grasshoppers, one rabbit, and dozens of varieties of wildflowers, and plenty of prickly pear cactus.

I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
