Day 116: Too cold to hold? Nope, still hot.

It's still too hot to do stuff outside. It's been in the mid nineties for the third straight day with no end in sight. On the plus side I'm getting a lot of movie watching done. I've updated my movies lists too. So, without further ado, here are some movie reviews.

What I'm watching today

The Wrong Missy (2020, Netflix streaming) - Oh wow, combine the sarcastic wit of David Spade and the goofy comedy of Lauren Lapkus, and the end result should be a pretty hilarious 90 minutes. Unfortunately that's not what you get. Don't get me wrong. Lapkus is funny in a more awkward than The Office's Michael Scott kind of way, but Spade is flatter than a pancake. Here's the thing. If you happen to bump into Molly Sims at the airport, and she shows even the remotest interest in you, you put her number in your phone after deleting every single other number in your phone. That's what this entire movie is predicated upon: David Spade's character not (a) not deleting old sociopath blind dates from his phone and (b) not making Molly Sims his ICE contact immediately.

The Old Guard (2020, Netflix streaming) - I don't know if you've heard, but there are a bunch of immortal mercenaries that have been defending humanity for millennia. Basically Charlize Theron is a 4500 year old--well I don't know what culture she's supposed to be from--but she is a super warrior who has assembled a team of four immortals who are supposed to be good guys. They discover that there is a new immortal, and they have to find and indoctrinate her. Oh, and there's a catch: Once you become immortal, you're only immortal for a limited time. It could be 5000 years, or it could be 5 minutes. You won't know until you're already dead. This movie ends on a weird note, suggesting that Netflix is going to make this into a series of movies.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
