Day 115: To hot to handle

The thermometer made it all the way into the upper nineties today, which meant that there was very little happening outdoors.

What I'm watching today

Desperados (2020, Netflix streaming) - I love everyone in this cast. Everyone. And it's a funny enough movie to keep me engaged. My only gripe is that Lamorne Morris has such brilliant comedic abilities, it's a shame that he played the straight man for most of the film. However it was great to see him rekindle his New Girl romance with Nasim Pedrad's character by the end of the movie. (I don't think that's a spoiler. Morris has third billing, and you can see it coming from a mile away during his second or third appearance in the movie.) In a nutshell this film is Road Trip, but with thirtysomethings instead of college bros.

Uncut Gems (2019, Netflix streaming) - This is a movie about a bunch of detestable scumbags who work in and around the New York diamond market. Adam Sandler plays the most disgusting of them all, as he lies, cheats, and scams his way into and out of debt. The broken kneecaps kind of debt. The movie really demonstrates Sandler's acting range--Billy Madison this ain't--and many have argued that this film was snubbed by the Academy for last year's Oscars. I don' t know about that. I can't see putting this movie in the same class with 1917 and Parasite, but it still deserves some form of recognition.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
