Day 109: Happy Independence Day!

Baby turns one month old today. That's the biggest bit of excitement we've had on this Fourth of July. Torrential rains came and ruined our barbecue plans so we settled for the only fast food that we could find open at the time, which happened to be Jack in the Box unfortunately. Our neighbor did bring over some sparklers for the kids, so they had some fun with those before bed.

What I'm watching today

The Lighthouse (2019, Amazon Prime streaming) - This movie is beautifully shot, brilliantly acted, and wonderfully unique, but the only thing most people will remember from it is the close up of a mermaid's junk. It's hard to sum up in a nutshell what this movie is about. Prometheus? Homoeroticism? A lighthouse? Watching it, it's hard to discern what is real and what isn't. One thing is clear though; Willem Dafoe was born to play this role. His normally over-the-top acting style is perfect for his salty sea-dog lighthouse keeper, when lesser actors would be eaten alive by the role. The same goes for Robert Pattinson who has come a long way from playing a piece of wood in those Twilight movies.

What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
