What I'm watching today
Unsolved Mysteries (2020, Netflix streaming) - I don't know if you've heard, but Netflix has rebooted one of the greatest TV shows of all time, Unsolved Mysteries. Of course it's not quite the same without Robert Stack, but the theme song is pretty true to the original. The format is a little different as well, but still good. The classic phone number 1-800-876-5353 (Don't act like you don't remember it.) appears to no longer in service, but tips can be submitted via the Unsolved Mysteries website, unsolved.com. I really hope they incorporate some alien and bigfoot episodes.
What I'm doing today
Finishing - I'm finally done with the mailbox. Finally. The last bit that needed to be done was to fill the top void around the post with concrete sealer to conceal the foam post filler and make it blend in with the sidewalk instead of looking like yellow snot. The first step was to use a grinder to remove more of the top layer of foam. I then tightly packed the void with gravel to give the concrete sealer something to bond to. Mixing the sealer was a bit of trial and error since the instructions on the container were pretty vague, so we'll see if I got the consistency correct the next time we get a good rain storm. Using a putty knife, since I don't own a trowel, I scooped up the sealer and packed it down onto the gravel in the hole. This stuff dried pretty quickly so it was tough to get it smooth, so my solution to that was to use a wisk broom to brush the top, smooth it out as best as possible, and remove any excess globs or crumbs. Ultimately it ended up looking a lot nicer than it did. I'm pretty happy with it and so is my neighbor.
Patching - I had a little bit of concrete sealer left over after finishing the mailbox, so I used it to patch a crack in the concrete in the garage. Years of winter salt and vehicles crossing the threshold had taken their toll on the garage floor, and there was about a 6-foot crack that ran parallel to the door a few inches inside the door. Applying the sealer worked great. I couldn't be happier with the results. The crack is still visible, but now it should be less susceptible to water/ice damage in the winter and the garage floor should last a lot longer now.
