Day 97: Getting out and about

Today was baby's two-week checkup appointment at the pediatrician. Since my wife still isn't allowed to drive yet, we piled everyone in the van and headed over to the medical campus. Of course we couldn't all go in, so my wife took the baby while the rest of us did donuts in the parking lot. But we made a day of it and went for a Costco run afterward. Of course we couldn't all go into Costco, so, again, my wife went in to do some quick shopping while we did donuts in the parking lot. Actually, the parking lot was full, so the older kids played on their electronics in the back, while I took a nice car nap in the front seat with a baby on my chest. Eventually the 3yo followed suit and passed out too.

What I'm watching today

Da 5 Bloods (2020, Netflix streaming) - The reviews for this film have been off the charts to I had to give it a shot. I wish I had checked the runtime before starting it because it is a long two-and-a-half hours. Spike Lee constructed this film by combining elements of Black Lives Matter, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War. The movie is timely, relevant, and powerful, but my question is whether it is done well--purely from a film-making perspective. There are a number of over-the-top monologues about betrayal, but at the same time, characters that don't seem to have any reaction at all to lifelong friends dying right in front of them. If you want to see a film about the effects of PTSD, then this could be a good film for you.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
