Day 95: I wish I could upload these weeds to the cloud.

What I'm watching today

Upload (2020, Amazon Prime streaming) - I expected this to be bad, but it's not. It's actually quite enjoyable. It does borrow heavily from multiple episodes of Black Mirror and The Good Place, but if you've never seen those shows, you might find this to be unique and clever. The premise of this show is that in the near future, humans will be able to upload their consciousnesses to a global cloud and essentially live on forever--provided that they have the money to keep their virtual afterlife going. The show is at times laugh-out-loud funny, but altogether dark. People can choose to end their real lives to start their virtual afterlives. Piggybacked on that social/ethical/spiritual commentary is a murder mystery to boot. I binged all of season one in two days, and will look forward to season two when it arrives.

What I'm doing today

Weeding - It never ends. Does it? I live in a high desert where the things I want to grow can't, and the things I don't want to grow thrive. My plan for the summer was to cut down on the amount of yard waste by recycling wherever possible and getting ahead of the weed situation by redoing much of the landscaping in the spring. Despite my best efforts, the lawn has gotten the best of me. I filled up my large trash bin with weeds, sticks, and other debris. My goal was to do this once all summer. but I know I'll need to do it again next week too when I cut down the dead trees in the yard. On the bright side, with the weeds gone, the landscaping will look pretty nice for the next week or so.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
