Day 75: The final frontier

What I'm watching today

Space Force (2020, Netflix streaming) This is a new show from Netflix that seems to have been produced fairly hastily after the White House announced the formation of said Space Force, and Netflix called "dibs!" There are a handful of one-liners in the first few episodes that are pretty funny, like Lisa Kudrow taking jabs at the state of Colorado. But for the most part, each episode is 28 minutes of filler in between the three or four good jokes. The plot is iffy, and the anti-science stance that the show seems to be taking is rather gross. Let's hope that it's merely a set up for a moral down the road. But I'm skeptical I'll make it that far.

What I'm doing today

Releasing - The caterpillars that the 8yo got for his birthday have been out of their chrysalises for a few days, and today was the day to set them free. All ten of the caterpillars emerged and survived to adulthood, which is the first time that has happened for us. (We've been doing this for a few years now.) We had fun letting them out one by one, and all three kids tried holding a caterpillar on their way to freedom--with varying results. Some screams of delight. Some screams of terror.

What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
