Day 102: Fire Saga

Today was the first day that we haven't had extensive smoke in the air outside. It has been bad lately due to smoke from fires in southwest Colorado and Arizona. A few days ago the smoke was so thick that the mountains completely disappeared.

What I'm watching today

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020, Netflix streaming) - You have already seen this Will Ferrell movie. But you haven't already seen this Rachel McAdams movie. And you definitely haven't seen this Demi Lovato cameo--one of the best movie cameos since Bill Murray in Zombieland. This film is basically an introduction to the Eurovision song contest that consumes Europe every year. In it Ferrell and McAdams play the members of the Icelandic band Fire Saga, a group known around Iceland for its penchant for spectacular failure, but one that somehow qualifies to represent Iceland in this year's Eurovision. Along the way there are some really great musical performances, in spite of the terrible song choices. (Cher's "Do You Believe in Life After Love" is such a cliche.) Several previous Eurovision contestants have cameos in the movie, and there are plenty of nods to ABBA for being Fire Saga's inspiration. The story culminates with Fire Saga performing a really moving song that I would totally download. In fact I celebrate Fire Saga's entire fictional catalog.

What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
