Day 69: Memorial Day

Something occurred to me today. I can't remember the last time I opened my shirt drawer. I've been doing laundry with such frequency that I've been cycling through the same few shirts for the past two months. Isn't that wild? My neighbors must think I'm gross after seeing me in the same clothes day after day even though they're clean.

What I'm reading today

See No Evil (2003, by Robert Baer) - I just started this book. It's the memoir of an operative who was active for over 20 years of service with the CIA working overseas assignments for the Directorate of Operations. Translation: as a spy. Baer chronicles the details of his early career, while simultaneously having some unflattering things to say about the agency in the twilight of his years there. I'm only a few chapters in, so I don't have much to say yet.

What I'm watching today

Itz Yinzburgh (YouTube channel) - There haven't been any live sports competitions that matter for over two months. It has its pros and cons. On the pro side, I haven't had to suffer through yet another abysmal Pittsburgh Pirates season, and I won't have to bear witness to the Chicago Bulls missing the playoffs for umpteenth time in a row. The NFL draft came and went, and the Steelers did fairly well, I think. Big Ben is rehabilitating and, depending on whom you ask, is set to have a great comeback season. But there's still something missing, so I've been filling the void with this YouTube channel that is filled to the brim with curated highlight reels from days gone by, bringing back memories. Like: Greg Lloyd was an animal, Yancey Thigpen is perhaps the most underrated receiver in Steelers history, Kordell Stewart at his best was great, and Big Ben's rookie year was one of the greatest of all time.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
