Day 66: Valar Morghulis

What I'm watching today

Game of Thrones (HBO Now streaming) - I walked into the room and my wife was watching season 1 episode 8 of the show. Anyone who has seen this show can tell you that the big blockbuster episodes are usually episode 9, so I sat down and joined her. I woke up on the couch around 2am somewhere in season 2. I stayed awake long enough to see Ned lose his head, Arya begin her journey, and Dany rise from the ashes, so it was worth it.

What I'm doing today

Seeding - With all three kids home all day every day, the back yard is looking pretty rough around the edges despite my best efforts. Not to mention the dog's poison urine. So we've begun to develop a few bald spots that had gotten so bad that they started eroding last week when we had some big rain showers. Rather than shut down the entire back yard like I did last summer to reseed, I'm doing it in sections. I cordoned off a small section around one of the really bad brown spots. In a large bin, I concocted a mixture of topsoil, chicken crap, and grass seed. I filled in the bald spot with the heavily moisturized mix, overseeded the top, and then covered the area with my neighbor's donated grass clippings to hold in the moisture. This is an experiment for the most part. I don't have high expectations, so if it works then that's great.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
