Day 55: Another Monday

Yes, it's Monday. Honestly, I don't think I would have even known that if the 7yo didn't have Zoom meetings for school today. It will be interesting to see when my stay-cation extends into the summer break whether I even bother paying attention to the days of the week anymore.

On a side note, I let him skip one of his Zoom meetings. He had a music session scheduled for noon, which is a stupid time to schedule class in the first place. At around 11:55, I reminded him about his meeting, and he asked if he could skip it. I asked why, and he replied, "It's a waste of time, Dad. We don't even talk about music." I'll admit I had to agree. Having sat in on one of those meetings previously, it was mostly a disorganized cluster of people talking over each other, and very little if anything of educational value.

What I'm doing today

Rewiring - The 7yo asked me if we could replace the ancient light switch in the boys' room today. I made a deal with him that if he got all of his school work done that we would replace it together. So we did. I did the heavy lifting. The 7yo apprenticed. The 3yo was the gopher running trash and old parts to the garbage can. And the 5yo supervised. We replaced the light switch and two of the outlets, before I ran out of parts. We'll have to revisit once I get more replacement outlets from the hardware store. On the bright side, I was able to map out and test the wiring in the boys' room and spare room, which I didn't have the opportunity to do previously.

Dealing - Man, the 3yo was wishy washy today. If he wasn't crying about one thing, he was crying about another thing. And if he wasn't doing that, he was beating the crap out of the 5yo. We spent a lot of time today doing conflict resolution and damage control. On the bright side, the 3yo volunteered to sit on the potty multiple times and even kept his diaper dry for most of the day, but still no poop.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
