Day 54: Happy Mothers Day!

What I'm watching today

Emma. (2020, Google Play streaming) - It is what it is: a Jane Austen story about pretentious people getting engaged. The performances are great, the cinematography is beautiful, and the music is refreshing, but when you put it on top of the same old story about rich English people in the 1880s, it loses it's luster. If you care to look at it from another perspective, then this is a movie where the hats are the stars of the show. If you love fancy hats, then this is the movie for you.

What I'm playing today

Pokemon Go - This should come as no surprise since I play Pokemon Go every day. However, this weekend, Go has been running two very big in-game events, which have taken up more than a few hours today and yesterday. I'm closing in on level 40, and this weekend helped to get me closer. And I even had some interesting catches, which impressed the kids.

What I'm doing today

Mowing - I completed the first mow of the season today. In all honesty, the lawn could have waited another week, but it's good to chop those ends off and get more organic material worked back into the soil. It's remarkable how perspective can change depending on where you're standing. From my front stoop, the lawn appears lush and green, but from the street it looks like a brown, barren wasteland. In the next week or two I'll be laying down some fertilizer and over-seeding to try to fill out the bald spots. We'll see how it goes, because if we don't get some rain soon it will be a waste of time.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
