Have I talked about Colorado weather on this blog? No? Ok, here goes. Today at around 5PM the skies opened up and we experienced something that can only be described as THUNDERHAIL. There's nothing more fun than running outside in flipflops in a 45 degree hail storm with thunder and lightning to move a car indoors. A 5 PM hail storm is a sure sign of summer in Colorado; however, the 45 degree temperature most certainly is not. Colorado, I don't think you know what you really want.
What I'm listening to today
Dead Eyes (2019, podcast) - Twenty years ago actor/comedian Connor Ratliff auditioned for a small part in HBO's Band of Brothers and got the part. The day before he was supposed to film, he was inexplicably called in to re-audition for executive producer Tom Hanks himself, after which he was informed that he no longer had the part. The only explanation? That Mr. Hanks thought he had "dead eyes." This podcast is one part true crime drama, one part insider's guide to Hollywood, and one part wacky as Ratliff explores the past in order to get to the bottom of why he was fired that day. Along the way he gathers opinions and insights from actors, directors, musicians, comedians, movie crews, and his parents to paint a picture of, not only his score-old predicament, but also how Hollywood works in general. Of course the ultimate goal of Ratliff's is to sit across from Hanks and ask him directly about that day, and who knows? Maybe by the time this podcast ends, he actually will.
Finishing - The other day I talked about taking my brother-in-law's chair to Lowes in order to get paint to complete a repair I was working on. So today was the day. I painted and sanded and steel-wooled and buffed several coats of paint before declaring the job done. I was mostly happy with how it came out. The color is perfectly matched but the gloss finish isn't quite right, so if you look at it in natural light or at just the right angle you can see two different finishes of paint. My sister in law seemed very pleased with it, so that's all that matters.
What I'm doing today
Ghostbusting - Last night around 1:30 AM I was awakened to the sound of horrifying screams coming from the 5yo's bedroom. It was terrifying. Now let me put that comment in context. At that exact moment I was having a nightmare in which our house was haunted by very large and very unkind ghosts, and the 3yo was getting up in the middle of the night every night to play with those ghosts. When I woke up, the line between what was real and what was just a dream was very blurred, and I charged into the 5yo's room expecting to use the compelling power of Christ and go toe-to-toe with a full bodied apparition. Fortunately there was no ghost, and after the 5yo told me the all-too-important thing that she forgot to tell me before bedtime, all was well, and she immediately went back to sleep.Finishing - The other day I talked about taking my brother-in-law's chair to Lowes in order to get paint to complete a repair I was working on.
