Day 30: 2020-04-16

It occurred to me that today is Day 30, and I don't even know what that means. Sure I know that it's April 16th, but I wouldn't have known that if it weren't my wife's birthday in two days. Eventually we'll all be wondering what month it is.

What I'm watching today

Bridesmaids (2011, HBO Now streaming)  - This movie is unequivocally one of the funniest movies of the past decade. Somehow the film was able to assemble several of the funniest women on the planet to fill out the cast, and the film gets funnier with every viewing. One thing I noticed on this viewing is how evil the antagonist, Helen, is. Previously I thought she was a kind of accidental antagonist by virtue of mistaken intentions. But no. She's a bad person. She very subtly eggs on the protagonist, Annie, and even attempts to murder her on a flight from Milwaukee to Las Vegas by giving her a couple of unidentified pills and a huge glass of Scotch. But--spoiler alert--it all works out in the end, and they agree to not be enemies any more.

What I'm doing today

Grocery shopping - Picture it: Thursday night. It's dark out. It's blizzarding and icy outside. And we need some groceries. What does a Coloradan do? This Coloradan gears up and heads out into the storm. I feel like it's probably a Colorado right of passage to stroll into a King Soopers with trekking poles and microspikes and stuff a Camelback backpack full of essentials. Something like that would have caused onlookers in Maryland to probably think I was some kind of vagrant and regard my trekking poles as weapons, but here in Colorado I don't think anyone gave me a second glance. Plus as an added bonus, I met my step count goal today.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
