Yesterday the four inches of snow from Monday melted, just in time for it to snow again tomorrow. Today was just plain cold, and even the dog was content to stay inside and just watch the squirrels from the warm sunny spot in the family room.
Repelling vermin - Last fall I removed an old aspen stump from the front yard, which created a two-feet-deep hole in the yard. While filling the hole in with dirt, I also dumped an entire bag of crocus bulbs into the hole. The green stalks started poking through the dirt late last week and the kids have been checking them every day to see what color the flowers are. Unfortunately, rabbits got to them before the kids did, because all they found were the stalks chewed all the way down to the ground. A few years ago disease all but wiped out the fox population in Colorado, which caused the rabbit population to skyrocket. And of course the coyotes and bobcats that live literally right across the street can't be bothered to come eat the rabbits in my yard. So I took matters into my own hands and creating an elaborate system of deadly traps for the rabbits. Just kidding. I sprayed the area with predator urine. Not kidding. And it seems to have done the trick, because the stalks have grown quite a bit over the past two days and even produced one lone purple flower. The children were pleased.
Filmmaking - I helped produce and direct the 7yo's video book report on the Magic Tree House book Balto of the Blue Dawn. The kid had to invent a cereal based on the book and decorate a cereal box accordingly. He created a cereal box for his cereal Balto Bites, complete with a list of ingredients (characters) and a maze on the back. I don't think the kid enjoyed making the box so much, but he loved filming. After all one of his life goals is to host a gaming channel on YouTube, and he practices all the time.
What I'm watching today
Westworld season 2 (2018, HBO Now streaming) I made it through season 1 of Westworld, and thought it was a pretty cool concept but wasn't in love with it. We actually started and stopped watching season 1 a few times due to a general lack of interest. I've been hearing how great season 3 is shaping up to be, so I decided to give season 2 a try. Nope. Couldn't do it. We "watched" four episodes, which means it was on the TV in the background while we focused on other things in between falling asleep. The point is that Westworld is not my jam, and that's ok.What I'm doing today
