What I'm watching today
Phineas and Ferb (2007, Disney+ streaming) - This show is so much fun. I love it, the kids love it, and the American people love it. Check this out: Two young step brothers on summer vacation build technological marvels and push the boundaries of science, much to the chagrin of their nosy teenage sister. Meanwhile their pet duck billed platypus, who is also a secret agent, routinely sneaks away to save the world from an evil supervillain. You can't make this stuff up. This is one of those rare times that Disney knocked it out of the park, which explains why the show was on the air for eight years. I will gladly put this show on for the kids, primarily because it's so good, but also because it's not Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. What I'm doing today
Winning championships - We cleared out the garage completely today and turned it into an all-purpose funzone. In one corner we had jumping rope. In another there was tricycle riding. Next we had GoNoodle in the 3rd corner. And lastly, bubbles! It was all fun and games until a 7yo made the unfortunate decision to challenge the rest of us to a jumping jacks competition. Forty jumping jacks later yours truly was crowned the 2020 Western Regional Mountain District Jumping Jack Champion.
Pet grooming - In order to alleviate my wife's allergies, the 5yo and I attempted to make our rat-dog allergen free. We shaved that dog down and then ran him through the spin cycle. And now he's 100% stink free.
Pine needling - Have you ever tried to rake pine needles off of gravel landscaping? No? Well let me tell you that it's impossible. You know what else doesn't work? Leaf blowers. There is only one way to get fallen pine needles off of gravel: with a good old fashioned broom. You have to sweep very lightly in order to move the needles without disturbing the rocks. It's a colossal pain in the ass, and it takes forever, but there's something inherently Zen about it. And now the side yard is free of my neighbor's pine needles.
