Day 21: Meh

I finished the day $50 richer and missing 1:39 + 1:48 of my life that I'll never get back. Call it a wash.

What I'm watching today

MacGruber (2010, Starz streaming) - I saw this movie in the theater in 2010 when it was released. I did not pay for it. Instead my wife and I were gifted tickets that someone else won in a contest and didn't want. This was an ok recurring Saturday Night Live sketch turned feature film, which exceeded expectations, but that's not saying much. I listen to several movie podcasts, and since every single one of them has been making best-of-the-decade lists, MacGruber has been a hot topic lately, somehow landing on virtually every best of the teens movie list. Here's the deal, folks: This is still not a good movie. It has funny moments. It has hilarious moments. Kristen Wiig is great, and her scene in the coffee shop is downright brilliant. I hate to say it, but this movie would have been better with Charles Barkley in it.

BASEketball (1998, Starz streaming) - Wow this one is even worse. The acting, story, and dated jokes are all bad. At least Jenny McCarthy is funny.

What I'm doing today

Surveying - Because everyone in our family goes to the doctor about 40 times a year, we were randomly selected to take part in the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), along with everyone else on our street. Every few months I answer about a million questions about my family's private medical information, and MEPS gives me $50. Earning $50 for spending an hour on the phone is a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. That's almost $50/hour!

Supplying - I had to go to the 7yo's school today to pick up his school supplies, since homeschooling has been extended through April. Somehow the school managed to organize an efficient pick-up procedure. My guess is that the school nurse was responsible for organizing the pick-up and not whoever is responsible for organizing the school's after-school pickup, which is typically a chaotic mess. Granted there are way too many idiot parents that disregard every single rule, procedure, and traffic law at after-school pick-up, thus contributing to the chaos. Maybe the Governor telling people to not be dumb has had some impact on people, but I doubt it. I think maybe it was the nurse.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
