Day 11: Back to square one

Whelp half the stuff I worked on yesterday was all for naught. The fan I fixed broke in another spot when I tried to put it back together, so I had to re-glue everything. Also the TV I mounted in the garage is getting too much interference from other sources and can't connect to the wifi, so I have a long cable on order to hopefully fix that. So early this morning I decided that today would be for relaxing.

What I'm watching today

Tons of Marvel movies -  We watched the Thor story arc (though it might be more appropriate to call it the Loki story arc), all on Disney+ streaming. When the day was done, we had watched Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and most of The Avengers (2012). There are plenty of highs and lows in this particular series of films. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of these movies is how well planned they are. As you go back and watch them again, you catch little details here and there. For example, in the first Thor, Dr. Selvig mentions a former colleague who has had dealings with S.H.I.E.L.D. in the past. To the casual viewer, this is nothing more than a throwaway line. But to fans of the MCU, this is clearly a nod to Hank Pym, of Ant-man fame. It's also fun to see the character of Loki change over time. Sure, Thor grows as a character, but Loki is far more complex; he has every motivation to be a villain, but he also has a good side that comes out when needed. The only thing that doesn't make sense is how he is repeatedly permitted to go free after murderous rampage after murderous rampage.

What I'm doing today

Strolling along - Like I said, today was a lazy day, but the kids and I still found time to get outside.
The AllTrails app has been recommending the La Foret Trail near Monument, CO, as a kid-friendly, stroller-friendly trail. I had been avoiding it for fear that it is just another boring neighborhood trail. I was eager to get outside this morning so we gave it a shot. First things first, this is a really nice walk. I wouldn't call it hiking since it's a paved trail through a residential neighborhood. However, I was pushing two huge kids in a double stroller, and my heart was really pumping at times. It's 2+ miles straight uphill with great mountain views, duck ponds, waterfalls, fitness stations, playgrounds, a community garden, an outdoor amphitheater, and lots of greenery. The 7yo could not stop talking about how beautiful the trail and adjoining park is, and he made me promise that we would come back in a few weeks when the blossoms are in bloom. When we finished, I gave it five stars on the app. We'll definitely be going back soon, especially since the kids were so worn out afterwards that there was some snoring coming from the back seat on the way home.

Day 91: Cleanliness

73. ✅  Clear out the flower bed in the front yard Two words: scorched earth. Garden hoe: loosen the dirt. (Broke that hoe.) Shovel: remove the dirt. Sieve: Filter out all the crap in the dirt. What was left was a smooth patch of barren soil. I'm sure there are undesirables lurking beneath the surface, so I'll let it lie for a few days before I do anything else with it. 51.  ✅  Deal with the shred pile This took days. I've been accumulating junk mail, old bills, and literally anything with my name, a family member's name, or our address on it for several months resulting in a two-foot tall stack of papers. It couldn't be done all at once, because (A) the shredder kept overheating, and (B) I kept running out of places to store the shreds. (They take up considerably more room than the unshredded sheets of paper.) 75  ✅  Clean off the workbench Getting rid of the shred pile was the main roadblock in completing this task, but it's done. And now there's a bike up ...
